Ashish Nehra
Full Name : Ashish Nehra
Birthday : 29 April 1979
Birth Place : Delhi
Country : India
Batting : Right Hand Bat
Bowling : Left Arm Medium

Test Debut : India v Sri Lanka at Colombo, Asia-Test, 1998/99
Along with Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra is a front line bowler for India.
For the first time in Indian history there are three left arm paceman in
the Indian squad including Irfan Pathan.
Nehra showed tremendous promise on India's tour of Zimbabwe, where he
got the ball to move in the air. An ability to generate movement off the
pitch makes him a very talented bowler. His abilities with the ball were
there to see for everyone when he ripped the English batsmen apart in
the World Cup and ended with a figure of 6 for 23.
If there is a major cause of concern with Nehra, it is the frequency of
his injuries. He seems to get injured every alternate tour. Perhaps his
bowling action is the reason for that, where he pressurises his ankle a
lot during his bowling stride. In the recent past due to the injuries,
he has been failing to generate any movement in the air on helpful
tracks. A change in his action perhaps to prevent injuries has brought
about this effect. There is a lot of work for Nehra to do to come back
in the same mode when he began. His ability to bowl at the death in
crunch situations is a very valuable ability he has. This was seen in
the 1st One Day International against Pakistan in Karachi, where he gave
just 3 runs out of the 9 that were required in the final over to win it
for India.
One just thinks that wether Nehra will come back well enough after the
series of injuries he is having. It will be a primary requirement for
Nehra to play consistently for India without getting injured. All rests
on his shoulders.
Pune: The National Selection Committee chairman Chandu Borde has
expressed disappointment over the performance of the Indian team, which
lost the second Test match to Zimbabwe by four wickets.
Mr Borde observed that injury to opener Sadagopan Ramesh put the team on
the back foot, but he was all praise for the Zimbabweans for sticking to
their game plan, especially in the second innings to restrict the
Indians to a small total.
Their fast medium bowlers deserved the credit for win, he added.
Mr Borde felt that had the Indians added 50 plus runs in the first
knock, it could have proved decisive to the outcome of the match.
Regarding the Limited Overs series he said that it is a different ball
game and there should be no reason why the Indians should not come out
with flying colours.
Speaking about Ashis Nehras inclusion in the One-dayers, Mr Borde told
UNI on Tuesday that the Indian team management, had requested the Board
of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jayawant Lele that
Nehra be retained in the squad for the One-day series.
West Indies is the third team in the fray.
''After hearing from Mr Lele, the request from Indian manager Chetan
Chauhan, I (Borde) got in touch telephonically with my other colleagues
and apprised them of the request made by the Indian team management.
They have readily agreed to the request to retain the Delhi seamer,''
Borde said.
Nehra was very impressive in the two-match Test series and taking his
performance into account, he would certainly be an asset to the Indian
team in the Limited Overs game, Borde observed.
