Profile
The name rings a bell for the "perfect 10" that he achieved against
Pakistan in 1999. A very unorthodox leg spinner, Kumble has gone through
a lots of ups and downs. An ideal bowler in Indian conditions, Kumble
has often suffered for want of support from the other end. He had a very
successful stint with Nottingham in his first tryst with county cricket.
The straighter one that zip through the batsman's defence is Kumble's
potent weapon. With experience, this right-arm leg spinner (who bowls
with a fastish action) has learnt a lot of variety and bowls the googly
effectively too. He has been in the forefront of India's many victories.
Kumble can bat well too and has had a lot of success as a batsman in
domestic cricket. He is a very thinking cricketer, who brings his
engineering and software back ground into the game as well. He was the
"hero" of India's Hero Cup victory with a six-wicket haul and now shares
an exalted place with Jim Laker of England in the annals of World
Cricket.
