Waheeda Rehman

Waheeda Rehman is an embodiment of classic beauty with a truly transcendental appeal. She was born in a traditional Muslim family at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. She was trained in Bharat Natyam.
Her first film was the Telugu film 'Jaisimha' in 1955. Her second film 'Rajulu Marayi' was a huge success. She was spotted by Guru Dutt in a song in the latter film and was brought to Mumbai. Waheeda was cast as vamp in C.I.D. She broke through the following year with Guru Dutt's masterpiece 'Pyaasa' in the role of a prostitute with the heart of gold. Her film 'Kaagaz Ke Phool' was not much successful.

Waheeda consolidated her position as a top star with 'Bees Saal Baad', a huge hit. With 'Guide', she reached the peak of her career. Waheeda's performance as Rosie was excellent. Later she gave some commercial successes like 'Ram Aur Shyam' and 'Pathar Ke Sanam'. Her performance in 'Teesri Kasam' was critically acclaimed. Waheeda Rehman now plays character roles.
