Mithun Chakravorty

Mithun Chakravorty was born in 1947. He was a naxalite, who sought refuge in the film institute. He failed to find any work in films and was forced to do bit roles in films - 'Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan' and 'Do Anjane' and danced at social functions.

In 1979, 'Surakshaa' and then 'Disco Dancer', released in 1982, brought him the much awaited success. His typical dance style and way of dressing became his trademark and he became a major dancing star. In 1981 film 'Hum Paanch', apart from fetching commercial success, got him critical acclaim for his performance. During the mid-1980's Mithun did a series of family dramas like 'Ghar Ek Mandir', 'Swarg Se Sunder' and the superhit movie 'Pyar Jhukta Nahin'. His success made him the second highest paid star in Bollywood.

But in the late 1980's, Mithun's film career dwindled. He faced a series of continuous flops. Though his films failed to do well, Mithun continued to be in demand with the producers in the early 90's.
